Saltash Camera Club : News

Saltash & District Camera Club has been active for over five decades, in fact it is our 60th anniversary this year. We provide a welcoming environment in which people of a like mind can discuss and develop their photographic skills and have some fun in the process. We meet every Monday evening at 7:15pm for a 7.30pm start from September to June (excluding Bank Holidays) at the Ashtorre Rock Community Centre in Old Ferry Road (right under the Brunel Bridge). There is easy access for anyone with restricted mobility. Once a month during the club season - usually the first Sunday - we have a field trip & during the Summer closure we organise field trips most Monday evenings. We're always pleased to see new faces, whether you're a virtual beginner or someone who has enjoyed photography for many years. We have a wide range of expertise within the club and members will gladly answer your questions, solve your problems, whether it's during one of our planned Monday evening practical or theory sessions, or one to one tuition. So why not come along a few times and see if you like what we have to offer. Our regular activities include guest speakers presenting aspects of their own work or demonstrating techniques in photography and image manipulation. We also have practical evenings, including sessions on portraiture, macro photography, 'Photoshop' skills, field trips to photogenic locations, critique evenings and various competitions, both within the group and with other clubs across the region. We also have an active social scene, which includes BBQ's, club dinners and impromptu gatherings throughout the year. Saltash Town Council awarded the club a Community Chest Grant for a digital projector and laptop computer. This enabled the club to make big inroads into the digital age. We sincerely thank the Council for their help as the equipment is used on a regular basis for presentations, competitions, digital slide shows and "live" lessons in image processing and other media applications. Most of our members now work in digital formats but our projected image competitions are still open to traditional slides. Why not pay us a visit, you will be sure of a warm welcome. Pete Wilkins Chairman

The club has won its second inter-club trophy within a fortnight. Following on from victory in the 3-way battle with Likeard and Ivybridge, we narrowly won the Tamar Trophy for B&W prints, thanks particularly to Ted Bakemore's dandelion clock print, which scored maximum 20 points and one of Ian Foulis seascape shots with 19 points. Although we have twice tied for first place, its the first time the club has won the trophy outright since 1986. Lets see if we can hold onto it next year.

Submitted by Paul Westaway
